Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator Practice Test 2026 – Complete Exam Prep

The readiness for release of a rehabilitated animal is best indicated by its ability to show normal behavior, regain health, and fend for itself in the wild. An animal that has successfully integrated back into its natural environment will exhibit behaviors that align with survival skills, such as foraging for food, avoiding predators, and navigating its habitat confidently.

While a full fur coat can be important for certain species, it is not the sole indicator of an animal’s readiness for release. Similarly, confidence around humans might not accurately reflect an animal's ability to survive once it is returned to the wild. The ability to eat easily can also be a factor, but without the combined elements of health and behavior, it does not fully confirm that the animal can survive independently. Therefore, a comprehensive assessment of the animal’s overall condition, typical behaviors, and survival skills provides the most reliable evidence that it is ready for release.
